History of Kaghan Co-Operative Housing Society Ltd

The Kaghan Co-Operative Housing Society Ltd (KCHSL) Society is registered with the Cooperative Department Government of Sindh under the Act 1925, having registration number K-680 of 1970.

Kaghan Co-operative Housing Society is one of the oldest Housing Society of Karachi. It was established in 1970’s by the prominent poet, scholar and columnist Late Syed Muhammad Mehdi (Raees Amrohvi) رئیس امروہوی

He was born on 12 September 1914 in Amroha, India. Later on he was migrated to Pakistan. He was the elder brother of Jon Elia, famous poet. He was assassinated by virtue of his faith on 22 September 1988 by an extremist religious militant group.

He was an acclaimed scholar, Urdu poet and psychoanalyst of Pakistan. Raees Amrohvi was famous for his exclusive style of writing quatrain in Pakistani newspaper, especially Daily Jang for many decades. He did best to promote Urdu language all over the world. Raees Amrohvi Poem ‘Urdu Ka Janaza Hai Zara Dhoom Say Niklay’ was one of the famous poems of Urdu literature. Raees Amrohvi Poetry contains an instant, succinct and extempore reaction towards the events taking place in the country or around the world. His poetry portrays from political to moral problem of a society.

Raees Amrohvi was an author of 50 books on his name including Ajaib-e-Nafs, Aalam-e-Arwah and several others.

Raees Amrohvi Ghazals are Alif, Pase Ghubar, Hika-Hazrat-e-Yazdaan and others. He also tried to translate ‘Bhagavad Gita’ a religious book of Hindus into Urdu standards.

Raees Amrohvi, Bazm Ansari and other poets and scholars felt the housing needs of middle class and lower middle class people of Karachi, specially the people migrated from India in 1947, who did not have shelters for their families. Raees Amrohvi and his other companion scholars got registered a Housing Society in Name and Title of KAGHAN COOPERATIVE HOUSING SOCIETY LTD. After many efforts they succeeded in getting a piece of land from Board of Revenue Government of Sindh located in Sector 20-A KDA Scheme 33 as Phase-I.
